Hello,
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Phil and I have two young children and we all enjoy playing board games together. I favour any type of game which will encourage them to think and learn.
If you have children, you will understand that they easily get bored and bounce from game to game. This is especially true when on holiday or travelling. Not to mention the copious amount of things you must pack when travelling with children. Whoever said “pack light” never had kids.
With that in mind and the fact that I wanted to reduce their screen time and encourage family time. I designed this game to be compact, versatile and child friendly. It encourages them to think both laterally, critically and “outside the box”. I wanted to make the most of the available space and after numerous designs, I settled on this design as it allows the user to play upwards of 12 games.
Once I had the blocks designed, I then set about designing the outer box as I wasn’t happy with cardboard packaging as they tend to get bent, ripped or torn. I designed the outer box not only to store and transport the game blocks but also to be utilized during game play as racks/game piece holders.
After I finished building 4CornerBox and wrote the included rule book. I wanted to test it on different groups to see how appealing my game could be. I found that due to the number of games included this meant that there was virtually something for everyone.
My parents who are in their 60s and 70s enjoyed the puzzle and wordmaker games most. I also took the game to work and my colleagues enjoyed the tumbling tower, letter connector and tell me a story (some even wanted to turn this into a drinking game) the most common theme was it was just challenging enough to want to keep playing but not so hard as to make you want to give up and stop.
My children, nieces and nephews enjoyed the memory game, tumbling tower, cascade, Draw It Out and Act It Out. They would also take the game blocks and go off on tangents making up their own variations on games listed.
I have applied for a patent as I felt that this design was novel enough to apply for one, currently this is with the UK IPO – Patent Pending Number 2205508.1
I have produced a “sell sheet” along with a 3 min 30 sec promotional video giving an overview of the game and how it works that you would find under the "about the box" page.
Please feel free to review the above-mentioned sell sheet and video at your convenience and if you have any questions, queries or comments please feel free to contact me via the "contact" page.
Kind regards
Phil
